St. Thomas Aquinas successfully defends its title in the Ghana Culture Week interschools debate

St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School has once again claimed victory in the Ghana Culture Week interschool debate competition, successfully defending their championship title.

The debate, which showcased some of the country’s top senior high schools, including St. Mary’s Senior High School, Tema Senior High School, and Design and Technology Institute, served as a platform to celebrate Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

In a competitive final round, St. Thomas Aquinas secured their win by defeating the Design and Technology Institute.

Beyond the overall winners, individual excellence was also recognized. Iris Bekoe of Tema Senior High School was awarded Most Knowledgeable Debater, while Obeng Mary Acquah received the Most Eloquent Debater prize.

The panel of judges for the competition included Dr. Sarah Dogbadzi and Dr. Eyram Fiagbedzi from the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, alongside veteran playwright and actor Abeiku Sagoe.

This year marked the third edition of the debate competition, which is a key event in the Ghana Culture Week celebrations.

During the opening symposium, the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts commended the Ghana Culture Forum (GCF) for its efforts in promoting Ghanaian culture.

Ghana Culture Week is an initiative by GCF, a civil society organization that brings together associations, organizations, and individuals from the cultural and creative industries.

As part of the celebrations, various activities were held, including a symposium, stakeholders forum, and the Taste 68@68 Food Fair, organized in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts. These events took place at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra on Friday, March 15.

The theme for this year’s Ghana Culture Week was Our Culture, Our Strength: Shaping Ghana for Global Impact.
