The Ministry of Transport of Ghana has officially entered into a strategic partnership with the World Aviation Group (WAG), a Spanish-based aviation consultancy, to develop a sustainable and efficient national carrier for the country.
This initiative forms part of Ghana’s broader efforts to revitalize its aviation sector, boost economic development, and enhance regional and international connectivity.
According to a release by the Information Services Department (ISD) Ghana, WAG has proposed a comprehensive plan to transform Ghana’s air travel landscape. The plan includes:
- Investment in modern, fuel-efficient aircraft to reduce environmental impact and improve operational cost-efficiency.
- Route network optimization to ensure competitive and profitable domestic, regional, and international flight services.
- Adoption of eco-friendly operational practices, aligning the airline with global sustainability goals.
- Strict adherence to international safety standards and delivery of exceptional customer service to build trust and brand loyalty.
To ensure the airline’s long-term viability, WAG will undertake a series of foundational actions, such as:
- Conducting market demand assessments to identify key travel corridors and passenger needs.
- Developing a detailed business plan with clear financial projections and operational strategies.
- Establishing partnerships with established international airlines for code-sharing and route expansion.
- Implementing a hub-and-spoke model centred in Ghana, aimed at improving air connectivity across West Africa and positioning Ghana as a regional aviation hub.

The proposed national carrier is expected to deliver numerous socio-economic benefits, including:
- Job creation across various sectors, from aviation and tourism to hospitality and logistics.
- Promotion of tourism, leveraging Ghana’s rich cultural and historical assets to attract international visitors.
- Strengthened intra-African and global connectivity, offering Ghanaians and neighbouring countries increased travel options and more efficient regional integration.
This ambitious partnership signals a significant step forward for Ghana’s aviation ambitions and reflects the country’s commitment to establishing a modern, reliable, and competitive national airline that can thrive on the African and global stage.
