The Arts and Culture Journalist of the Year was awarded to Daily Graphic reporter Annastacia Delali Sika at this year’s Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards ceremony, which was held on Saturday, September 28 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
Her article, “Highlife ‘firi tete.’ Taking different forms to suit changing times,” which appeared in the Daily Graphic on Friday, March 3, 2023, earned her recognition as the year’s top Arts and Culture journalist. Sika developed her abilities as an arts journalist working as a reporter for Graphic Showbiz for more than ten years, covering subjects related to the arts, culture, and entertainment.
Her tenure at Graphic Showbiz, where she conducted interviews with the highest-profile figures in Ghana’s entertainment business and abroad, surely stoked her interest in the arts.
She also told Graphic Showbiz that she will always be grateful to the editors for their steadfast support and insightful criticism, which helped her reach new heights in her career. I am deeply grateful to my previous and current editors, Nanabanyin Dadson, Adwoa Serwaa Bonsu, and Samuel Doe Abblodepey, for their years of mentorship and advice. “Receiving this accolade is indeed a privilege. It symbolizes not just my commitment and enthusiasm but also the countless opportunities that arise from sharing the cultural narratives of Ghana,” the woman remarked.
“I’ve always believed that art is a powerful medium for social change, and through my work, I aim to capture the essence of our culture and how it influences society. Ghana’s creative industries have so much to offer, and I’m committed to telling these stories,” she said.
