If Bodo Staiger was the “architectural engineer” of the Progressive Highlife, Ampofo Acquah Gh was the master craftsman who provided the digital skeleton and rhythmic heartbeat of the new progressive Highlife. As a virtuoso guitarist and visionary composer, Acquah ensured that, even with all the German synthesizers, the music never lost its Ghanaian soul who drew the blueprints. This is the African-European Cross-Cultural Exchange that fundamentally altered the DNA of Ghanaian music.

Before these two joined forces, African recordings in Europe often struggled to find a balance between “authentic” and “radio-ready” for global markets. Ampofo Acquah and Bodo Staiger solved that by producing tracks that were sonically elite, creating “High-Tech Highlife”—a genre that was sophisticated enough for European clubs and soulful enough for a wedding in Kumasi.

The Staiger-Acquah sessions at Rheinklang Studio made Düsseldorf the unofficial capital of Ghanaian music production that defined the “Golden Era” of Highlife Music, directly influencing the rise of many new acts that have stood the test of time.
