Delta Air Lines has returned to Ghana after a 13-year break, resuming its seasonal Accra–Atlanta route. The comeback adds excitement to December in Ghana, a period already packed with festivals, cultural events, and tourism activities. Moreover, the new route is expected to boost tourism, expand business opportunities, and strengthen Ghana’s relationship with its diaspora. The official launch took place at Kotoka International Airport, Terminal 3, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, with media, partners, and officials in attendance.

GTA Highlights December as a Cultural Showcase
During the launch, Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), emphasized that December is the perfect time to promote Ghana’s rich culture and entertainment calendar. She said, “We have worked hard to market Ghana abroad. With events like December in GH, Detty December, the 100-year Highlife Festival, the Gospel Festival, Taste of Ghana, the Diaspora Summit, and the popular Takoradi masqueraders, we offer visitors a full cultural experience. That is why we are inviting the world to come and enjoy our warmth, our food, our clothing, and our culture. Ayekoo to Delta Airlines.”
A Proud Moment for Ghana’s Creative and Tourism Ecosystem
Madam Houadjeto described the airline’s return as a proud moment for the nation. She noted, “This moment is important for all of us. Delta has renewed its commitment to Ghana and reaffirmed our position as a key hub in the region. At GTA, we see this flight as a gateway into an unforgettable December season. It will showcase our music, culture, creativity, and spirit. We celebrate Delta for returning, and we look forward to a strong partnership.” She also explained that the direct flight significantly improves the travel experience. Previously, most passengers had to transit through New York. Now, travelers can enjoy a smoother, shorter journey from Atlanta to Accra.

Direct Route Improves Travel Experience
Madam Houadjeto further stated that Atlanta remains one of GTA’s most important international stops. “Whenever we promote Ghana abroad, Atlanta is always our first destination. Many cities around Atlanta feel closely connected to us. My family, friends, visitors, and the diaspora are all excited about this direct service. We are truly grateful,” she added. She also addressed why the route was discontinued 13 years ago, explaining that passenger numbers were low at the time. However, the new seasonal service offers a more convenient travel option, making it attractive for both tourists and business travelers. She added that GTA has collaborated with security, airport, and immigration agencies to ensure that every visitor feels safe, welcomed, and respected.
Details of the New Seasonal Service
Delta’s non-stop Accra–Atlanta flights began on Monday, December 1, 2025. The airline will operate the route daily through late March 2026 with the Airbus A330-900neo. The aircraft features Delta One Suites, Premium Select, Comfort Plus, and Main Cabin seating. With this addition, Delta now serves Accra from two U.S. gateways: its year-round daily New York–JFK route and the new seasonal Atlanta service.
