The summit, launched in Accra by the Africa Investment Network, aims to deepen economic ties between Africa and its diaspora. Participants will include stakeholders from the private sector, government institutions, academia, and international entrepreneurship networks.

Mrs. Jane Reindorf-Osei, Founding President and CEO of the Africa Investment Network, emphasized the significance of starting in Ghana. She noted, “As a proud Ghanaian, I believe there’s no better place to begin. Ghana offers not only natural resources but also the energy and talent of its people.”

She added that the two-day summit will focus on investment and trade. It is supported by partners such as the National Black Chamber and several members of the Africa Investment Network.

According to Mrs. Reindorf-Osei, the summit is about more than economic opportunities. Many members of the diaspora view Ghana as a second home. For some, this will be their first visit to Africa. They are eager to explore its culture, investment potential, and participate in the “Black Star Experience.”

Mr. Kofi Okyere Darko, Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President, underlined the economic impact of the Ghanaian diaspora. He revealed that remittances to Ghana now exceed $6.4 billion.

He also explained the government’s commitment to diaspora engagement, saying, “President Mahama retained the Diaspora Affairs Office to show how much we value Ghanaians living abroad. We encourage professionals like teachers, doctors, and entrepreneurs to return and contribute to the nation’s growth.”

Mr. Darko urged the diaspora to visit Ghana in December to attend the National Diaspora Summit and experience the Black Star event.

Mrs. Yvonne Ocloo, CEO of TopDog Africa and a partner of the summit, spoke about the long-term vision. “This summit is about creating jobs and driving sustainable growth. After stops in Washington DC and Toronto, the final and most impactful leg will be hosted in Ghana this December.”
