Ghanaian musician Ayisi has opened up about the guiding philosophy behind his career, revealing that his motivation lies in fulfilling a purpose, not chasing fame.

Ayisi, whose real name is Emmanuel Kwadwo Oware, shared that this purpose-driven mindset has been his anchor throughout the highs and lows of his musical journey. Despite investing years of effort and passion into his music, recognition was slow to come. Still, he remained resilient, refusing to let the lack of mainstream fame derail his focus.
In a recent interview following his Record of the Year win at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards, Ayisi reflected on his journey. He emphasized how staying true to his craft, even in silence, was key to his breakthrough.
“I took a break — not for lack of work — but to handle some personal matters. Still, I was always in the studio, recording and preparing for the right moment,” he said on Joy Prime’s Changes with Roselyn Felli. “I don’t wait for conditions to be perfect before I act. I kept working and when the timing was right, I stepped back out.”
Ayisi rose to prominence in 2016 with his hit single Grind, but subsequent songs didn’t achieve the same level of success. It wasn’t until 2024 that his 2022 track Can I Live began to resonate widely, earning him a nomination and ultimately the Record of the Year award at the 2025 awards ceremony.
He credits his success to staying grounded in his belief that while fame may not be everyone’s destiny, everyone has a purpose — and remaining faithful to that purpose is what truly matters.
