The Creative Arts Agency of Ghana (CAA) is set to launch the inaugural edition of Writin’val, a national writing festival, scheduled for June 25–26, 2025, at the National Theatre in Accra.

Organised to commemorate this year’s National Writing Day, the two-day festival aims to spotlight the cultural, educational, and economic value of the writing industry in Ghana. Writin’val 2025 will feature a rich lineup of activities including masterclasses, workshops, performances, panel discussions, and business plan presentations, all designed to nurture, celebrate, and promote Ghana’s vibrant writing landscape. The event seeks to align the industry with national educational needs, promote employment, revive Ghana’s storytelling traditions, and enhance the country’s cultural tourism appeal.
The festival will unfold in two parts:
- An online session (via Zoom/webinar) on Wednesday, June 25, focused on the business aspects of writing.
- A physical event at the National Theatre on Thursday, June 26, featuring book exhibitions, performances, writing conventions, and hands-on workshops.
Distinguished guests expected to participate include:
- Prof. Ladé Wosornu – celebrated poet, columnist, and playwright
- Martin Egblewogbe – literary advocate and author
- Kafui Danku – acclaimed Ghanaian actress
- Dr. Wale Okediran – author and Secretary General, Pan African Writers Association
- Dr. Sarah Dorgbadzi – renowned storyteller and theatre director
- Akofa Edjeani – veteran actress and cultural activist
Writin’val 2025 is an initiative of the Creative Arts Agency of Ghana in collaboration with the National Theatre of Ghana and Adwinsa Publications Ghana Ltd. It is supported by the Pan African Writers Association, Ghana Association of Writers, Graphic Showbiz, National Film Authority, and the Ghana Tourism Development Company.
