Wazumbians Make a Comeback to +233 with the Jankalanga Festival

March is widely recognized as a time to celebrate Ghanaian culture, and this year, the Wazumbians are set to continue the tradition with another exciting edition of the Jankalanga Festival at +233 Jazz Bar & Grill.

Originally launched in 2018 as an online showcase of Ghanaian rhythms, stories, and dances, the Jankalanga Festival has since evolved into a vibrant live event, establishing itself as a captivating celebration of music and culture.

Following their third consecutive U.S. tour last December, the Wazumbians, led by Francis Chapman Abban-Hagan, popularly known as Wazumbi, remain dedicated to sharing their music in an engaging and accessible way.

“We are messengers of good musical vibes, and if the message isn’t delivered in a way that people can happily consume, they will just tune us out and turn away. We don’t want that to happen. That’s why we embrace so much of what is ours and share it with people,” Wazumbi said.

An Unmissable Lineup of Performances

This year’s Jankalanga Festival promises an unforgettable experience with performances by King Ayisoba, Bessa Simons, Fanta Cissokho from Senegal, and a surprise guest artist from Canada.

Renowned musician Bessa Simons praised the Wazumbians, saying:

“Whenever you hear the Wazumbians, you know right away that it’s them. You cannot mistake them for any other band. There is wonderful cohesion among the members as they stay true to their unique style, and I always love to hear them.”

A Band with Global Impact

During their four-month U.S. tour in 2024, the Wazumbians also made a special stop in Colombia, performing at the Festival Voces Del Jazz, further expanding their international presence.

Now, they are ready to bring their electrifying stage presence back home for the Jankalanga Festival 2025, promising a thrilling experience for music and culture lovers alike.
