Hon. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, recently held a strategic meeting with the Volta Movie Makers Association, led by President Mr. Blackmore Anthony Ayivor, to explore ways to revitalize the region’s film industry.

Minister Gunu recognized the vital role the local film sector plays in preserving cultural heritage, empowering young people, and contributing to regional economic growth. He applauded the association for their creativity and resilience, urging them to keep producing stories that inspire, educate, and entertain audiences.
Key challenges discussed during the meeting included limited access to funding, lack of infrastructure, and the broader need for investment in the sector. Stakeholders noted that the stagnation of the Volta film industry stems largely from insufficient financial support and a lack of understanding of its commercial potential.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting the arts and creative industries, highlighting their importance in strengthening cultural identity and creating job opportunities. He assured the association of his commitment to tackling the industry’s challenges and collaborating on sustainable development initiatives.
This engagement aligns with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council’s wider agenda to boost the creative arts, which includes plans to establish a regional music and photo arts studio and host an annual Creative Arts Festival.
The meeting ended with a joint pledge to develop actionable strategies that will unlock the potential of the Volta Region’s film industry and ensure its long-term success.
