Media General continues to shine in the journalism arena, with two of its leading journalists, Portia Gabor and Emmanuel Samani, winning first and second place at the 2023 Emerging Health Technologies (EHTs) Media Award of Excellence.
This distinguished award, hosted by the Platform for Dialogue and Action on Health Technologies in Africa (Health Tech Platform) and the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), recognizes outstanding journalism that enhances public awareness and understanding of emerging health technologies in Africa.
Portia Gabor earned the top spot in the TV category for her impactful report on the use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) systems in neurosurgery at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
Her report highlighted how these advanced technologies are improving surgical precision and offering new hope to patients with complex brain conditions. The story received acclaim for its thorough reporting and effectively illustrating the real-world impact of innovative technologies in healthcare.Emmanuel Samani closely followed, securing the runner-up prize for his feature, “Artificial Intelligence: Revolutionizing Healthcare in Ghana.” His report explored the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) within the country’s healthcare system, emphasizing improvements in diagnostic accuracy and patient care.
