The Flower Pot Interchange on Spintex: A Perfect Fusion of Functionality and Art

On November 19, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated the Flower Pot Interchange, a GH¢147 million infrastructure marvel designed to address traffic congestion and enhance urban aesthetics in Accra’s Spintex Road corridor.

The interchange, constructed by China Railway No. 5 Engineering Ghana Limited in collaboration with Afrexim Bank, features an 802-meter dual carriageway viaduct, complemented by ramps, slip roads, and a newly developed link road. These elements improve connectivity between key areas such as Spintex, East Legon, Airport Hills, Cantonments, and the Accra-Tema Motorway.

Blending modern functionality with artistic design, the interchange incorporates vibrant landscaping, pedestrian walkways, green spaces, and advanced lighting installations, making it a visually striking landmark. It not only improves traffic flow but also showcases Ghana’s cultural pride through eco-conscious urban planning.

Commenced in 2017, the project reflects Ghana’s commitment to enhancing its road network to accommodate rapid urbanization. The Flower Pot Interchange joins other pivotal projects like the Pokuase and Obetsebi Lamptey interchanges, collectively aimed at boosting regional connectivity, reducing travel times, and stimulating economic growth.

This transformative development stands as a testament to Ghana’s pursuit of innovative and sustainable urban infrastructure, marking a significant milestone in Accra’s urban evolution.
