In an effort to reclaim Ghana’s cultural identity during the December festivities, De Graft Oppong, co-founder of Entertainment Week Ghana, is advocating for a strategic repositioning of Ghana’s Detty December. With increasing competition from other African nations leveraging the festive season, Oppong envisions Entertainment Week Ghana, set to launch in the first week of December 2025, as a game-changing platform that will redefine entertainment while establishing December as a key destination for creativity, innovation, and cultural exchange.

Entertainment Week Ghana aims to bring together industry stakeholders, innovators, and investors for in-depth discussions on digital transformation, content monetization, and evolving entertainment business models. A major highlight of the event is a global entertainment summit featuring panel discussions with top creative executives and industry experts. Additionally, an award ceremony will recognize 15 outstanding individuals whose contributions have significantly shaped the entertainment industry across various disciplines.
A unique component of the event is the “Deal Room,” an exclusive forum designed to connect venture capital firms with tech-driven entrepreneurs. This initiative will provide selected innovators with the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of investors and industry leaders, fostering strategic partnerships and investment opportunities.
Oppong emphasized that the platform was created to empower creatives—especially those who have been historically overlooked—while harnessing the potential of technology and innovation. “This initiative was born from the urgent need to acknowledge and support creatives while equipping them with the tools necessary for long-term success,” he explained.
With backing from the Ministry for Youth Development and Empowerment and Diaspora Affairs Ghana, Entertainment Week Ghana is well-positioned to shape the future of the creative industry. Hon. Yaw Opare Addo, Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, highlighted the initiative’s role in integrating technology and innovation with Ghana’s entertainment heritage. Similarly, Kofi Okyere Darko, Director of Diaspora Affairs Ghana, emphasized the inclusive nature of the event, which welcomes both local stakeholders and members of the Ghanaian diaspora.
Organized by Blacvolta Multimedia, Party Extra, and Q Bespoke, Entertainment Week Ghana seeks to offer a structured and centralized approach to Detty December. Oppong’s vision is not only to solidify Ghana’s status as an entertainment hub but also to ensure that December evolves into a holistic cultural celebration encompassing entertainment, innovation, and sustainable development.
As other African nations continue to embrace the Detty December concept, Ghana’s renewed focus on this festive season has the potential to redefine its narrative and establish the country as the premier destination for cultural and business opportunities.
