South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille, has launched a special outreach programme in Ghana from March 26 to March 28, 2025.
This initiative aims to strengthen tourism partnerships and promote cultural exchange between the two nations.

During her visit, Minister de Lille will engage with Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Honourable Abla-Dzifa Gomashie, as well as the South Africa-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, tourism trade representatives, key media, and industry stakeholders. The discussions will highlight South Africa’s appeal as a premier destination for leisure and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism.
The relaxation of visa regulations between Ghana and South Africa in November 2023 marked a pivotal step in unlocking tourism potential. This move fostered stronger tourism and trade ties, facilitating seamless travel experiences for citizens of both nations. It also created new opportunities for business, leisure, and cultural exchange.
“Ghana and the broader African continent are vital markets for South Africa’s tourism sector. This visit reaffirms our commitment to deepening partnerships and unlocking growth opportunities through meaningful collaboration. Ghana has shown remarkable growth, with a 149.0% increase in tourist arrivals to South Africa in 2024 compared to 2023. The number of Ghanaian visitors rose to 36,656, largely due to the visa waiver introduced in November 2023 and consistent marketing efforts by South African Tourism. This policy now allows citizens of both countries to travel visa-free for up to 90 days within a year,” Minister de Lille stated.
Her visit is particularly significant as it coincides with South Africa’s hosting of the G20 Summit—a milestone that underscores the country’s growing global influence and dedication to strengthening partnerships across Africa.
“We recognise the immense potential of intra-African travel in driving economic growth, cultural exchange, and shared prosperity. This outreach mission is an opportunity to deepen our relations and partnerships with Ghana,” Minister de Lille added.
Additionally, the programme will provide a platform for senior officials from both countries to discuss bilateral tourism matters and enhance cooperation.
