MUSIGA’s She Rhythms Launch Spotlights Women’s Empowerment

Ghana has launched its first all-female music festival, She Rhythms, with an inspiring ceremony at Alliance Française in Accra.

The three-day festival, slated for 4–6 December 2025, is a collaboration between MUSIGA and Alliance Française Accra, powered by Ram Media Concepts, and is dedicated to empowering women in the music industry.

The event featured speeches from prominent cultural and music leaders.

Chairperson Nana Adwoa Awindor described She Rhythms as a platform designed to celebrate and amplify the voices of female musicians. MUSIGA President Bessa Simons emphasized the importance of granting women equal recognition and opportunities within the music space.

The night came alive with a lineup of powerful performances. Gospel star Celestine Donkor opened with a moving set, followed by Aklerh’s high-energy dancehall showcase. Maya Blu delivered a soulful performance, while DJ Nyce thrilled the crowd with her turntable skills. Adding an international touch, American artiste Kim Poole blended fusion sounds, before Lady PJ and Efya—the official face of She Rhythms Festival—brought the audience to its feet.

Industry Support

Alliance Française Accra’s Marketing Manager hailed the festival as a cultural milestone. Key industry figures, including Jones Nelson of the GTA, Edwina Assan of the GCF, Bernice Dei Kumah of NFB, and Robert Blah of Charterhouse, shared messages of support, stressing She Rhythms’ potential impact on Ghana’s creative arts industry.

The evening also featured a traditional set by Amamre and a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony to mark the official launch. Distinguished guests included Prof. Esi Sutherland-Addy, former MUSIGA President Diana Hopeson, media personality Black Coffee, Dr Samantha Ama Hollingworth, and several MUSIGA executives.

Closing the ceremony, Abena Ruthy, MUSIGA’s 2nd Vice President and head of the Gender Desk, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, reaffirming the Union’s commitment to promoting gender equity in the music sector. The programme was expertly hosted by Doreen Avio of Hitz FM.

The She Rhythms Festival promises to be a landmark celebration of female artistry, resilience, and excellence. It will feature performances, collaborations, and mentorship opportunities—all designed to amplify women’s voices and redefine the role of women in Ghana’s music industry.
