Nollywood veteran Segun Arinze touched down at Kotoka International Airport yesterday ahead of his role in the stage play The Black Star (The Teacher of Africa).

The celebrated Nigerian actor, renowned for decades of work in film, television, and theatre, received a warm welcome marked by a cultural display and media reception that highlighted Ghana’s hospitality. His arrival marks a key moment in preparations for the historic production, which will feature him alongside Ghanaian stage actor Andrew Tandoh-Adote and nearly 100 cast and crew members.
Produced by Africa Arts Network in partnership with the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and directed by Emmanuel Ato Ghartey, The Black Star (The Teacher of Africa) tells the story of Ghana’s first president and Pan-African visionary, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The production is envisioned not just as a theatrical work, but as a cultural statement on African unity and shared history.

The play will premiere from September 19 to 21, 2025, at the Commonwealth Hall Amphitheatre, University of Ghana, as part of activities commemorating Nkrumah’s birthday. It is scheduled to return in March 2026 at Black Star Square during Ghana’s Independence celebrations.
Speaking to the press, Segun Arinze expressed his excitement:
“It feels wonderful to be here, and this collaboration is important, especially between West African countries. Ghanaians and Nigerians share history, and I look forward to a great performance. I also hope members of Kwame Nkrumah’s family will be present to witness this play.”

His co-star, Andrew Tandoh-Adote, also highlighted the significance of Arinze’s participation:
“I’m grateful to Africa Arts Network for energizing the theatre space. Having a strong name like Segun Arinze on board is a powerful step toward fostering collaboration across Africa.”
