Online music streaming giant, Spotify, has acknowledged Ghanaian artists as key contributors to African love music, featuring multiple names in its newly released “100 Best African Love Songs” playlist on Tuesday, February 11.

The list includes top Ghanaian musicians such as King Promise, Kojo Antwi, Sarkodie, Gyakie, Bisa Kdei, Kuami Eugene, Stonebwoy, and KiDi, reaffirming their status as creators of timeless love songs.
Featuring love-themed tracks released from the 2000s to the present, notable Ghanaian songs on the playlist include Sarkodie’s Can’t Let You Go, Gyakie’s Forever (Remix) ft. Omah Lay, King Promise’s Selfish, KiDi’s 4Life, Kwesi Arthur’s Nobody ft. Mr Eazi, Stonebwoy’s More of You, and M.anifest’s Me Ne Woa, among others.
The selection highlights how Ghanaian music is deeply connected to emotions like love, passion, and heartbreak.
According to Spotify’s data, an intriguing trend emerged: over the past three years, 68% of Ghanaians streaming heartbreak music were men, while women accounted for 31%. Additionally, the demand for heartbreak songs in Ghana has surged by 226%, particularly around Valentine’s Day—suggesting that while many celebrate love, others turn to music for comfort during this time.
The playlist also features songs by notable Nigerian artists, including Runtown’s Mad Over You, Wizkid’s Piece of My Heart, Rema’s Baby (Is It a Crime), and 2Face’s If Love Is a Crime.
In July 2024, Spotify released a list of 30 Ghanaian songs making a global impact in the first half of the year. This list recognized Ghanaian tracks with the highest number of streams outside Ghana between January 1 and June 30, with King Promise’s hit single Paris emerging as the country’s top international favorite at the time.
