The seven-city, month-long tour will begin in Alexandria, Virginia, on March 1 and end in Seattle, Washington on March 30.
During the tour, the band will perform songs from their repertoire, including tracks from their well-received 2020 debut album Alewa, which peaked at No. 1 on the World Music Charts Europe that same year, and 2023’s Deep Into Highlife, a collaboration with Berlin-based 14-piece brass band Omniversal Earkestra.
Bassist and producer Emmanuel Ofori created the band, which aspires to develop contemporary narratives steeped in Ghanaian highlife traditions. The band borrows from 1970s dance-guitar highlife, integrating elements of funk and incorporating polyrhythmic beats and Afrobeat melodies.
Since 2019, the band, signed to Outhere Records, has maintained a hectic traveling schedule, performing at major European festivals and sharing stages with recognized musical artists such as Erykah Badu, Ziggy Marley, Cardi B, Chance the Rapper, Justin Bieber, and Macy Gray, among others.
Ofori stated his unhappiness with Ghana’s lack of support for highlife music in an October interview with Accra-based Joy 99.7 FM. He said that as a result, the band prefers to prioritize other concerts.
“If I play in my own country and I’m gonna have just three people dancing, and I play in someone’s country and I have everyone else dancing, I would like to play there,” he continued.
