Rex Omar appointed as Presidential Staffer for the Black Star Experience

Renowned Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur, Rex Owusu Marfo, widely known as Rex Omar, has been appointed as a Presidential Staffer for the Black Star Experience.

The Black Star Experience is the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagship Culture, Arts, and Tourism initiative, aimed at redefining and reaffirming Ghanaian identity, attracting investment, creating job opportunities, and boosting tourism. The initiative will feature year-round celebrations across major entertainment, artistic, and educational disciplines.

A celebrated Ghanaian highlife musician, Rex Omar is also a trained management professional specializing in intellectual property rights and is regarded as one of Ghana’s foremost authorities on the subject.

In March 2017, he was elected Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) for a four-year term and was re-elected for a second term. His extensive expertise in the music industry has earned him various leadership roles, including serving as Vice President of the Copyright Society of Ghana and as a member of the 2013 Committee for National Intellectual Property and Policy Strategy.

He previously held the position of Head of Business and Finance at the Musicians Union of Ghana and is also a member of SUISSA Copyright Society of Switzerland, with a publishing contract under EMI (Germany).

Politically, Rex Omar has served as an advisor to former President John Mahama and the NDC on the growth and significance of the creative arts sector within Ghana’s cultural and entertainment landscape. He has also acted as the party’s spokesperson on matters related to the creative industry.
