Professor Kobby Mensah, an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited (GTDC).
GTDC is responsible for promoting and mobilizing resources for investment in tourism ventures, fostering joint ventures with both local and international stakeholders, and supporting small businesses within the tourism sector. The company also provides financial and technical assistance to improve the services of businesses in the tourism industry, aiming to enhance the efficiency and profitability of its operations.
About Professor Kobby Mensah
Born and raised in Takoradi, Western Region of Ghana, Professor Kobby Mensah received his basic education at St. Peters Primary School and later attended St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast. He furthered his education at the Institute of Public Service (now UPSA) and obtained a PhD in Journalism from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom, along with an MSc in International Marketing from Sheffield Hallam University.
His career took him to the Student and Youth Travel Organization (SYTO), where he served as Marketing Manager before being transferred to South Africa.
Currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, Professor Mensah is a Chartered Marketer (CIM, UK) and a highly regarded academic in the fields of Political Marketing and Tourism. His research is focused on evidence-led, practical, and collaborative teaching and research methods. He is the editor of Political Marketing and Management in Ghana: A New Architecture, published by Palgrave MacMillan, and is recognized as a leading expert on Political Marketing in Africa.
Globally recognized for his expertise, Professor Mensah has been featured by media outlets such as the BBC, Financial Times, DW, and SABC. He is also a leading figure in Tourism, having participated as a speaker on digital tourism at the African Tourism Leadership Forum (ATLF) and the Ghana Economic Forum. He also serves as a key advisor to Brand South Africa, providing insights on Pan-African brand identity.
With expertise in communication, campaign management, social media development, media relations, and event planning, Professor Mensah has played a pivotal role in developing marketing campaigns and streamlining organizational processes in line with corporate brand identity.
