President Akufo-Addo Implements Visa-Free Travel for Africans, Advancing AfCFTA and Regional Integration. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has delivered on his January 2024 pledge to introduce visa-free travel to Ghana for citizens of all African nations.
As reported by Asaase News, the policy received executive approval on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, and is set to take effect in early 2025. This move positions Ghana as the fifth African country to welcome all holders of African passports without requiring a visa.
The President first announced this groundbreaking initiative during the 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogues, themed “Developing Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value and Trade.” Speaking to an audience of over 2,000 business leaders and political figures, he reiterated Ghana’s dedication to facilitating the free movement of people—a core pillar of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
“Many of you had to secure a visa to attend this event. Ghana’s government is committed to ensuring visa-free entry for all Africans, and steps are already underway to implement this policy,” Akufo-Addo stated.
