Nkyinkyim states that band music can be profitable—with the right investment

The Nkyinkyim Band has emphasized that Ghana’s music industry, especially its band culture, cannot flourish unless musicians reinvest meaningfully in their craft.

In an interview on JoyNews’ E Vibes Musical Band Series, members of the group asserted that while band music has the potential to be lucrative, success demands consistent and intentional investment.

“A-list artistes are reinvesting in themselves. Some spend as much as $15,000 on a single video or photoshoot. That’s not just spending—it’s a strategic investment in their brand,” a band member pointed out.

They also raised concerns about a prevailing mindset among local bands, which they believe undermines growth in the sector.

“Too many live bands adopt a ‘play and cash out’ mentality—perform, collect payment, and move on without putting anything back into the music. This approach is slowly eroding the band music culture,” the group noted.

Nkyinkyim has built a solid reputation for professionalism and artistic excellence, standing out as a leading force in Ghana’s live music scene. Their cautionary message sheds light on deeper issues in the music industry, particularly around financial planning and sustainability.

The E Vibes Musical Band Series aims to spotlight such narratives—offering audiences a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes challenges and victories of Ghanaian bands through interviews, live sessions, and storytelling.

Nkyinkyim’s call is clear: to enjoy the fruits of music, musicians must be ready to invest in the roots.
