The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has officially announced plans to celebrate its Golden Jubilee in 2025, marking 50 years since its founding. The announcement was made on November 7, 2024, at a launch event held at the Accra Tourist Information Centre.
During the launch, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons outlined an extensive lineup of activities planned for the jubilee year. These celebrations will feature a series of concerts that will bring together both local and international artists, alongside lectures, symposiums, and a formal dinner gala, among other events.
One of the most anticipated highlights of the Golden Jubilee celebrations is the All-Women Festival. Bessa Simons emphasized the significance of this event, stating, “One big thing is going to happen, and that is we are going to have an all-women festival.” This festival will provide a unique platform exclusively for female musicians and aims to celebrate and empower women in the music industry.
MUSIGA has extended a global invitation to female musicians from around the world to join the festivities in Ghana. “We are inviting female musicians from all over the world, and it is self-sponsored if you are coming from outside. All the embassies will publish it, so we are expecting women to come to Ghana and then they will mount the stage,” said Simons.
The festival will feature both outdoor and indoor performances, as well as church events, with tentative plans to invite renowned international artists like CeCe Winans to collaborate with Ghanaian musicians. The goal is to foster harmony and build stronger connections between Ghanaian artists and musicians from across the globe.
MUSIGA was established on December 9, 1975, with a mission to advocate for the rights of musicians, promote the growth of the Ghanaian music industry, and preserve the country’s rich musical heritage. As the organization prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary, it remains dedicated to these values, aiming to make the Golden Jubilee an unforgettable celebration of Ghanaian music and culture.
