MTN Ghana donates to Asogli Traditional area at 2024 Asogli Yam Festival

Through a donation to the Asogli Traditional Area, MTN Ghana has reinforced its commitment to supporting community development as the 2024 Asogli Yam Festival unfolds with vibrant cultural exhibits and unity.

The grant was made possible by MTN’s long-standing collaboration with the Asogli State and demonstrates the company’s commitment to the socioeconomic development of the area. Mr. Peter Bimpeh, the Commercial Head for the South-East Business District, gave the gift.

A major yearly celebration in the Volta Region, the Asogli Yam Festival, or “Teza,” unites chiefs, queen mothers, and Asogli State residents to commemorate the harvest of yam, a staple crop that represents plenty and cultural legacy. The festival’s theme this year was “Let’s Ensure Freedom and Justice for All,” highlighting the value of justice, equality, and human dignity in society.

Speaking to the crowd at the donation ceremony, Mr. Bimpeh acknowledged how honored he was to be a part of the historic festival. He expressed his gratitude to the elders of the village and Togbe Afede XIV, the Paramount Chief of the Asogli State, for their hospitality in making MTN feel welcome at such an important event.

It is impossible to overstate the significance of this year’s celebration’s theme, “Let’s Ensure Freedom and Justice for All.” A fair and equitable society must first ensure that everyone has access to freedom and justice, according to Mr. Bimpeh. He emphasized the connection between justice and dignity, saying that everyone has the right to be treated fairly and with respect, regardless of color, ethnicity, or gender.

Mr. Bimpeh continued by highlighting the Asogli Yam Festival’s importance as a cultural landmark for the area and beyond. He pointed out that the celebration promotes harmony, tradition, and the passing down of values from one generation to the next in addition to honoring the yam harvest.

Mr. Bimpeh announced MTN Ghana’s donation to the Asogli Traditional Area on behalf of the firm. The donation consisted of GH¢ 20,000.00 in cash to help the Traditional Council, GH¢ 2,000 worth of e-vouchers for airtime, and a variety of drink hampers.
