Mastering the Art of Safe Passage – KAIPTC Launches New Executive Travel Security Course

For many of us, travel is about the thrill of the destination—the vibrant markets of Accra, the historic streets of Europe, or the quiet luxury of a business retreat. But in today’s rapidly changing global landscape, the “duty of care” has shifted from being a corporate buzzword to a personal survival skill.

Recognising this shift, the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has officially launched its inaugural Executive Travel Security Course.

The program, which debuted in Accra in late January 2026, isn’t just for peacekeepers. It is designed specifically for high-level executives, frequent flyers, and “well-meaning enthusiasts” who want to bridge the gap between adventure and safety.

Why This Matters Now

Colonel Lawrence Deku, Director of Training at KAIPTC, highlighted a sobering reality during the opening ceremony: while we often associate travel with “destinations and adventure,” the modern world has introduced unpredictable variables like targeted crime, cyber threats, and health crises.

The course aims to move beyond theoretical warnings, providing travellers with a practical toolkit to navigate the world with confidence rather than fear.

What’s Under the Hood?

If you’re a digital nomad or a corporate leader, the curriculum reads like a “must-have” list for 21st-century movement. The modules include:

  • Risk Assessment: Learning how to analyse a destination before you even book your ticket.
  • Situational Awareness: Training your brain to spot red flags in unfamiliar environments.
  • Cybersecurity for Travellers: Protecting your data (and your identity) while on the move.
  • Cultural Awareness: Understanding local customs to avoid accidental conflict.
  • Crisis Management: Knowing exactly what to do if an emergency strikes.

The Future of Safe Travel

By shifting the responsibility of safety from organisations back to the individual traveller, KAIPTC is empowering people to take charge of their own security. Whether you’re heading across the border for a high-stakes meeting or planning a solo trek across the continent, the message is clear: Knowledge is the best travel insurance you can carry.

As Colonel Deku aptly put it, this initiative represents “the future of safe travel.” In a world that is more interconnected—yet more complex—than ever, being a “pro traveller” now means being a “secure traveller.”
