President John Mahama has appointed Maame Efua Sekyi-Aidoo Houadjeto as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).
A parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Mfantsiman Constituency for the 2024 general elections, she succeeds Akwasi Agyeman, who resigned earlier this month.
Maame Efua, a former Deputy Women’s Organiser of the NDC, will now head the GTA, the main agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, responsible for promoting tourism, marketing, and ensuring quality standards.
With the new government’s The Black Star Experience initiative being hailed as a transformative project for the tourism and creative arts sectors, Maame Efua is expected to collaborate closely with the sector ministry and other stakeholders to build on the successes of the previous administration.
The GTA has been instrumental in advancing Ghana’s tourism sector, leading key campaigns such as the highly successful Year of Return and Beyond the Return, which have contributed to a significant increase in international tourist arrivals in recent years.
