Last week, the National Theatre didn’t just host a play — it became an emotional boxing ring. No sweaty gloves or bell-ringing needed; this was a battle of hearts, secrets, and shocking truths as Roverman Productions premiered “Love on the Ropes” to a thrilled crowd of thousands.

Set in the lavish backyard of Don — a wealthy ex-boxer turned politician — the story swings between romance and chaos. Don is head-over-heels in love with his flashy, sharp-tongued influencer wife, Aisha, who runs a social media empire called Ish Nation. He showers her with love and luxury, but she serves him sass, suspicion, and side-eyes in return.
Things heat up when Don, in an attempt to bond, joins Aisha on a live stream. But what starts as a sweet gesture spirals into a viral moment that cracks open a four-year-old secret. Aisha, under the spotlight and with 2.5 million viewers tuned in, pressures Don to spill — and though he waits until the stream ends, he eventually folds under the weight of her demands.
But Aisha isn’t exactly innocent. She lives by her own rules: cheat if you must, just don’t let your partner find out. Unfortunately for her, secrets in the digital age don’t stay buried for long.

Uncle Ebo Whyte doesn’t disappoint — the show bursts with infectious music, laugh-out-loud moments, and plot twists that had audiences gasping and clapping in disbelief. Real-life themes were delivered with signature humour and flair, and the post-show live band turned the foyer of the National Theatre into a lively dance floor.
“Love on the Ropes” isn’t just a play — it’s an experience. Part comedy, part cautionary tale, part emotional therapy.
The night also ended on a heartfelt note, as Roverman paid tribute to their late Head of Production, Emmanuel Kwabena Yeboah (KY). Instead of silence, the audience rose in applause, honouring the man who spent 13 years shaping the magic behind the scenes.
Catch “Love on the Ropes” again on Sunday, July 5, at 1pm, 4pm, and 8pm. You’ll laugh, cry, and maybe rethink Instagram Lives forever.
