Ghanaian comedian Lekzy Decomic has stressed the need for pundits with a deep understanding of comedy to lead discussions about the industry.
According to Lekzy, having knowledgeable commentators would significantly improve the quality of conversations and create a more supportive environment for comedians.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, he voiced his frustration with the current state of comedy discourse in Ghana.

“We need pundits who truly understand the craft, the business, and the culture of comedy. It’s time to move beyond surface-level discussions and explore the deeper aspects of our industry,” he stated.
Lekzy’s remarks come at a time when Ghana’s comedy scene is experiencing remarkable growth, with a new wave of comedians gaining recognition. However, despite this progress, the industry continues to grapple with challenges such as limited funding, insufficient investor interest, and a lack of proper understanding from outsiders.
He believes that informed pundits could help tackle these issues by providing valuable insight, constructive criticism, and expert analysis, which would not only enrich industry conversations but also help comedians refine their craft.
“We need people who can offer thoughtful commentary and meaningful critique. This will not only enhance discussions around comedy but also offer useful feedback to comedians striving to improve,” Lekzy added.
His call for comedy-savvy pundits has resonated with fellow comedians who share his concerns about the state of industry discourse.
As Ghana’s comedy industry continues to evolve, time will tell whether Lekzy’s appeal for more insightful discussions will be embraced. One thing is certain: with voices like his pushing for change, the future of Ghanaian comedy appears more promising than ever.
