Kumasi vigil for Daddy Lumba has been postponed until further notice

The Kumasi edition of the candlelight vigil in honour of the late music icon, Daddy Lumba, originally scheduled for Saturday, August 9, has been postponed indefinitely.

This announcement was made in a press release issued on Thursday, August 7, 2025, by the Creative Arts Agency and signed by the Agency’s acting Executive Secretary, Gideon Aryeequaye.

According to the statement, the postponement is in honour of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in a recent helicopter crash.

The decision follows President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration of a three-day national mourning period, from August 7 to 9, 2025, in remembrance of the victims.

The planned vigil in Kumasi was to follow a successful event held at Independence Square in Accra on Saturday, August 2, 2025, which saw a large turnout of fans, musicians, and dignitaries, all paying tribute to one of Ghana’s most beloved and influential musicians.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the age of 60 after a brief illness.

The Creative Arts Agency extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the entire nation, expressing heartfelt sympathy and unity during this period of mourning.
