Germany-based Ghanaian Highlife artist, Kofi Eiphos, has called on the Ghanaian media to give more attention to artists residing abroad. Despite gaining significant recognition for his electrifying live performances and building a solid fan base internationally, particularly in Germany, Eiphos has expressed disappointment at the limited media coverage Ghanaian artists living overseas receive from their home country’s media.
In an interview with GhanaWeekend, Kofi Eiphos, whose real name is Isaac Oteng, shared his frustration over the Ghanaian media’s tendency to overlook the achievements of diaspora-based musicians. “Despite my success here in Germany, I’ve noticed that the Ghanaian media often ignores artists like myself who are doing well abroad,” he said. “How many media houses are highlighting the positive strides we’re making? It seems like they’re only interested when there’s bad news about us to report.”
Eiphos, widely regarded as one of the top Ghanaian performers representing the country in Germany, emphasized the need for more balanced coverage, noting that many abroad-based artists are playing a significant role in raising the profile of Ghanaian music on the global stage. He urged Ghanaian DJs, radio presenters, and media platforms to pay more attention to the successes of these musicians rather than waiting for negative stories to spark discussions.
