Ko-Jo Cue encourages musicians to prioritize their mental health and seek support when needed

Ko-Jo Cue Urges Open Dialogue on Mental Health in Entertainment Industry

Ghanaian hip-hop artist Ko-Jo Cue is calling for more open and honest conversations about mental health, particularly within the entertainment space.

Ko-Jo Cue—real name Linford Kennedy Amankwaa—shared his personal journey with mental health struggles, emphasizing the importance of seeking help. According to him, asking for support is not a sign of weakness but rather a courageous step toward healing and personal growth.

“I went through two major traumatic experiences in 2020 and 2021, back-to-back, which deeply affected me. Coupled with the pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic, it all became too much. That was the point I knew I needed therapy,” he revealed. He added that while he’s withholding the specific details for now, the events heavily influence his upcoming projects in both theme and execution.

The “Up & Awake” hitmaker, who had been out of the public eye for over two years, said mental health discussions must be normalized to help people realize they are not alone.

Ko-Jo Cue also shared how travel became an essential part of his healing process. “I travelled a lot—to Nigeria, Kenya, the U.S., and even lived in Italy for a while. Being in a new environment gives your mind something fresh to process, which can be very therapeutic. It’s like how cleaning your room clears your head. Changing your surroundings can help reset your mind.”

Alongside travel, he credited therapy, time, reconnecting with friends, and even gardening as key practices that helped him manage his emotions and remain grounded throughout his healing journey.

Reflecting on his two-year break from music, Ko-Jo Cue emphasized that every phase of life has value—even the quiet moments away from the limelight.
