Ghana’s film industry is on a path to expansion as the newly appointed leadership of the National Film Authority (NFA) engages former board members in a strategic dialogue to shape the sector’s future.
Held at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, the meeting was led by Kafui Danku-Pitcher, Executive Secretary, and James Timothy Gardiner, Deputy Executive Secretary. The discussions centered on knowledge-sharing, policy continuity, and industry development, ensuring a smooth transition while leveraging the expertise of the previous board.
Recognizing the film industry’s vast economic potential, the engagement focused on key areas such as achievements, challenges, and ongoing initiatives that require sustained commitment. Critical topics included strengthening regulatory frameworks, improving funding accessibility, and expanding market opportunities to enhance the industry’s global competitiveness.
David Dontoh, the former Board Chairman of the NFA, was among the notable figures who contributed to the discussions.
Madam Kafui Danku-Pitcher expressed deep appreciation for the former board’s dedication to shaping Ghana’s film landscape. She reaffirmed the NFA’s commitment to building on past successes, improving policy implementation, and fostering stronger industry collaborations. She emphasized that continuity and institutional memory are vital in unlocking the industry’s full potential.
Former board members reflected on their tenure, highlighting key policy advancements and regulatory milestones achieved under their leadership. They underscored the need to strengthen the Legislative Instrument (L.I.) to establish clear industry guidelines on operations, financing, and content distribution.
Additionally, they advocated for greater investment in local productions, enhanced intellectual property protections, and increased global market access to position Ghana as a leading film hub.
Deputy Executive Secretary James Timothy Gardiner assured the former board of the new leadership’s dedication to advancing policies that drive industry growth and sustainability. He acknowledged the importance of strategic partnerships, capacity-building programs, and improved funding mechanisms to support filmmakers, actors, producers, and distributors.
This collaborative approach marks a significant step towards a more structured and globally competitive Ghanaian film industry.
