Renowned British actor and filmmaker Idris Elba made a historic return to Ghana on March 25, 2025, to pay homage as a son of Ga land under the reign of King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II. His homecoming was commemorated with a grand ceremony at the Ga Mantse Palace, where he was honored for his contributions to the African diaspora and his dedication to advancing Ghana’s creative industry.
Upon his arrival in Accra, Elba was warmly received by Justice Naa Yaale, Chief of Staff to the Ga Mantse and daughter of the late Ako Adjei, one of Ghana’s revered Big Six independence heroes. Her presence underscored the deep historical and cultural significance of the occasion, symbolizing a bridge between Ghana’s rich heritage and its promising future.

“One of my key goals has always been to bring the industry back to Africa,” Elba expressed passionately. “We have secured 22 acres of land near Osu Castle for an incredible studio and school that will serve our creative community in Accra.”
His announcement was met with enthusiastic applause as he outlined his vision for a world-class film studio—an initiative designed to train and employ young Ghanaian creatives while positioning Ghana as a major hub for African cinema.
Recognizing the significance of the project, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II pledged his full support.
“Our children and youth need direction, and we need these tools,” the Ga Mantse affirmed. “Bringing in a studio and partnering with us is the way forward. That is why we fully support this initiative, ensuring that the creative arts industry, particularly Ga content creation, reaches new heights.”
