Last weekend, The Hague came alive with the vibrant sounds, colours, and energy of Africa. The 14th edition of the Hague African Festival united established stars, rising talents, and changemakers from across the continent and the diaspora.

The Hague African Festival 2025 transformed the Dutch city into a hub of African music, fashion, and culture. It celebrated creativity and social impact under the theme “Changemakers.”
Curated and directed by Augustina “MS ABA” Austin, the festival featured concerts, exhibitions, film screenings, and community events over several weeks. The celebrations ended with a spectacular weekend finale at ZuiderparkTheater.
Ghanaian music sensation Epixode delivered one of the most memorable performances. He teamed up with the all-female Infinity Band for an electrifying set filled with heartfelt tributes. This performance followed his win at the 2025 Ghana Music Awards, where he earned the Music for Good Award for inspiring positive change through music.

Senegalese singer Omar Ka kept the crowd dancing with his infectious rhythms. In addition, Tanzania’s Yacyn Wastara, a graduate of the festival’s talent programme, impressed audiences with his fresh, contemporary Afro sound.
Fashion was also a highlight. Ghanaian designer Dzogbefa showcased sustainable creations made from naturally dyed fabrics and bold silhouettes. Beyond the runway, she leads a project that produces reusable menstrual products for girls, helping to fight period poverty and promote eco-friendly practices.

The Elevate Talent Programme, headed by Renato Saeroon, highlighted emerging acts. Among them was 12-year-old prodigy Jayce, whose confident stage presence drew admiration from the audience.
Furthermore, the festival offered intimate “Africa Living Room Sessions”, the moving film Nawi, and the “Female Icons” exhibition. These events celebrated women who have made outstanding cultural contributions.
Organised by Stichting Nteasee, the festival enjoyed strong support from the Municipality of The Hague, Fonds 1818, Amare Den Haag, VSB Fonds, Mercure, Filmhuis Den Haag, ACE Medical Insurance, Stichting Topaz, and Badabing Visuals. Overall, THAF 2025 stood out as a vibrant celebration of Africa’s creativity, resilience, and influence worldwide.
