In a significant show of civic responsibility and tourism sustainability, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in partnership with youth-led volunteer group Bus Stop Boyz, led a major clean-up exercise at Nationalism Park, located near the Accra Sports Stadium and Independence Square.

The initiative aimed to restore the beauty and cleanliness of the iconic national site and demonstrated the GTA’s dedication to environmental stewardship within Ghana’s tourism sector.
The clean-up was spearheaded by GTA’s Deputy CEO, Gilbert Abeiku Santana Aggrey, who was joined by Director of Corporate Affairs Mr. Jones Aruna Nelson and Director of Administration Nana Agyenim Boateng. Alongside members of Bus Stop Boyz and local volunteers, the team undertook a thorough clean-up to preserve one of Ghana’s cultural landmarks.

In recognition of their efforts, the GTA applauded the patriotic spirit of the Bus Stop Boyz and their commitment to maintaining public spaces.
Addressing the media, Abeiku Santana emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in protecting Ghana’s heritage:
“We urge the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly and all MMDAs to prioritize the upkeep, safety, and greening of our historic sites. Under H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda, the GTA is committed to safeguarding, promoting, and maintaining our tourism assets to ensure a world-class experience for all visitors.”

Operating under Act 817 (2011) and reinforced by Legislative Instrument L.I. 2393 (2019), the Ghana Tourism Authority is charged with licensing and promoting tourist sites across the country. While many heritage sites fall under the stewardship of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB), Forestry Commission, traditional authorities, and private entities, the GTA continues to play a leading role in enhancing the country’s tourism potential.
“Tourism is a shared responsibility,” Abeiku Santana added. “We encourage partnerships between government bodies, the private sector, traditional leaders, and communities to protect and promote our natural and cultural heritage.”
This clean-up drive forms part of GTA’s broader agenda to advance responsible tourism, support environmental consciousness, and boost tourism infrastructure, keeping Ghana’s attractions clean, vibrant, and globally competitive.
