Ghana’s 2023 AfroFuture Rising DJ and Producer Challenge was won by DJ Tiannah, a UK-based DJ.
Tiannah defeated Zyrx Sounds of Nigeria and Abbeh of Uganda, who were also among the top three finalists, in the results that were revealed on December 13. Ethan Tomas, a Ghanaian-American selector who won the competition’s first edition the previous year, will now hand off to her.
In order to perform at TuneCore’s AfroFuture Mixer and get a spot on the TuneCore Stage during the AfroFuture event at El Wak stadium on December 28 and 29, Tiannah will receive airfare to Accra, Ghana. Among the main performers at the event are Ghana’s Black Sherif and Nigeria’s Davido.
Tiannah will also get a unique prize package from Native Instruments and Splice, which includes a free one-year subscription to Splice’s Creator, a Kontrol S61 Keyboard, a Komplete 14 Collector’s Edition, and a Traktor X1 DJ Controller.
“I’m very appreciative of this chance,” Tiannah declared after winning. “I’m excited to take the stage by storm.”
The competition, which is being held in collaboration with TuneCore, a digital music distribution company owned by Believe, intends to highlight up-and-coming DJs and beatmakers from Africa and the diaspora.
This year’s AfroFuture, which is the brainchild of the Culture Management Group, honors the accomplishments of Black pioneers throughout the diaspora and highlights their contributions to art, culture, and innovation under the theme Black Unification and Pan-Africanism.
