Ghana Gains Visa-Free Access to Four Countries

Ghana’s Parliament has unanimously approved visa waiver agreements with four nations, removing the need for travel visas for Ghanaian passport holders.

The announcement was made by Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, via social media on Saturday, July 27, 2025. The newly ratified agreements allow Ghanaian citizens to travel visa-free to São Tomé and Príncipe, Colombia, the Commonwealth of Dominica, and Mozambique.

According to Minister Ablakwa, the agreements were formally submitted to Parliament earlier in the week and received unanimous backing. This move builds on a similar agreement ratified with Morocco earlier this year.

He also revealed that the Mahama-led administration is actively pursuing additional visa waiver deals, with hopes of securing more ratifications before the close of 2025. The overarching goal, he noted, is to elevate the global status of the Ghanaian passport, positioning it as “one of the most valuable and respected travel documents in the world.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized its continued investment in advanced security measures for Ghanaian passports. These improvements aim to prevent misuse by international criminal networks and protect the integrity of the document—further reinforcing Ghana’s eligibility for broader visa-free access around the world.
