Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured Ghanaians that there is no formal communication from the United States indicating that Ghana will be added to a list of countries facing travel restrictions.

His comments come in response to a statement made on June 14, 2025, by U.S. President Donald Trump, suggesting his administration was considering restricting entry for citizens of 36 countries, including Ghana.
According to reports from The Washington Post, the potential move forms part of a broader immigration policy strategy, based on a document allegedly reviewed from the U.S. State Department.
However, Minister Ablakwa emphasized that there is currently “no cause for alarm,” as the Ghanaian government has not received any official notification regarding such measures.
“Ghana has not been officially informed of any plans to place our citizens on a travel prohibition or ban list by the United States,” he clarified.
He also disclosed that the Foreign Affairs Ministry has engaged U.S. counterparts to seek clarification on the matter.
“I have requested reassurances from relevant U.S. officials to confirm that the leaked reports are unfounded. For now, I can confidently tell Ghanaians that there is no reason to panic,” the Minister affirmed.
