Ghana’s tourism sector gains diplomatic momentum

In a major step to expand Ghana’s tourism presence in Central Europe, the Ghana Embassy in the Czech Republic has led a strategic promotion campaign in Prague. Spearheaded by Her Excellency Madam Doris Adzo Denyo Brese, the initiative aimed to strengthen partnerships between Ghana and key stakeholders in the Czech tourism industry.

Held at the Malostranská Beseda Gastronomický Provoz, the event was organized in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA). Over 30 leading Czech tour operators, members of the Association of Tour Operators and Travel Agents (ACCKA), and officials from Czech ministries joined tourism professionals from Ghana.

GTA CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto was represented by Deputy CEO Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey and Marketing Director Betty Kobi. They delivered engaging presentations that showcased Ghana’s top tourism assets, including World Heritage Sites, scenic beaches, and vibrant cultural festivals.

To attract Czech travelers, Mr. Aggrey introduced two major promotional campaigns—“December in Ghana” and “The Black Star Experience.” These initiatives are designed to promote Ghana as the gateway to Africa, especially for travelers from Central and Eastern Europe.

A cultural performance by the University of Ghana Dance Ensemble delighted the Czech audience. The display offered a vivid taste of Ghana’s rich artistic traditions and served as a cultural highlight of the evening.

Ambassador Brese emphasized the Embassy’s commitment to using diplomacy as a tool to promote tourism, trade, and cultural exchange. She personally facilitated connections between Czech operators and Ghanaian stakeholders and explained visa processes to ease future travel.

“Tourism connects people and cultures,” Ambassador Brese said. “This event shows our dedication to building meaningful international bridges.”

Lenka Fidranská of ACCKA commended the Ghana Embassy’s proactive approach. She praised its efforts to strengthen tourism cooperation between Ghana and the Czech Republic.

Attendees received Ghana-themed souvenirs including chocolate, Kente sashes, and travel guides, providing a sensory introduction to the country’s tourism appeal.

This event marked Ghana’s first direct tourism promotion in the Czech Republic. It also launched a broader campaign targeting Central Europe, with similar events planned for Poland and other countries.

The Ghana Tourism Authority expressed gratitude to the Embassy. It reaffirmed its commitment to working with diplomatic missions to attract new tourists and investors from across Europe.
