NYA set to organise Youth Festival this August

Ghana is set to host its maiden National Youth Festival this August, in line with International Youth Day on August 12, as announced by Osman Ayariga Esq., CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA).

According to Mr. Ayariga, the NYA is spearheading this groundbreaking initiative to address the critical challenges facing the country’s youth — going beyond just employment and training to focus on holistic well-being.

“This festival is not only about jobs and skills. It’s also about the emotional and mental wellness of our young people,” he noted.

The week-long Ghana Youth Festival will feature conferences, forums, and awareness campaigns centered around issues such as mental health, drug abuse, unemployment, and other social and economic hurdles. Special attention will be given to mental health, which Mr. Ayariga emphasized as key to achieving real youth empowerment.

“If the mental health of our youth is unstable, training and jobs alone won’t bring the transformation we need,” he stressed.

One of the major highlights will be a nationwide street campaign against drug abuse, in addition to discussions on youth entrepreneurship, leadership, digital skills, and civic engagement.

The festival will wrap up with youth-centered entertainment and recreational activities, creating a dynamic and inclusive platform that celebrates and uplifts Ghana’s youth.

“This is a historic first for NYA—an event of this scale that places youth development at the heart of national dialogue,” Mr. Ayariga added. “Our goal is to drive change, foster resilience, and ensure young people are meaningfully included in national development.”

Following the festival, NYA will roll out a Youth Fellowship Programme in October, offering young Ghanaians more opportunities to grow, connect, and lead. The National Youth Festival is expected to become an annual celebration that unites youth across the country, amplifies their voices, and influences policy for a brighter future.
