Ghana and Colombia have renewed their commitment to strengthening cultural cooperation following a meeting between Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Colombian Embassy in Ghana, Kelis Zulay Moreno Mosquera.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Ministry’s offices in Accra, focused on enhancing bilateral relations through cultural and creative collaborations. Discussions also centred on preparations for the upcoming Festival of Traditional Music.

First introduced in 2023 as the Pan-African Cultural Festival, the event—now rebranded as the Festival of Traditional Music—has evolved into a vibrant platform celebrating both African and Colombian heritage. This year’s edition will highlight indigenous sounds and rhythms that connect communities across the African diaspora.
Ms. Moreno Mosquera, accompanied by senior embassy official Sefakor Afi Mensa Dartey, extended an official invitation for Ghana to participate in the International Book Festival set for April 2026 in Colombia. The event will gather authors, publishers, and cultural leaders from around the world. She also confirmed Colombia’s participation in Ghana’s Afro Gastro Festival, a signature culinary and cultural event organized by the Ministry.
Minister Gomashie welcomed the initiatives and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to promoting cultural diplomacy and creative exchange. She emphasized that such partnerships help advance intercultural dialogue and deepen connections between Africa and global partners.
The meeting was also attended by the Ministry’s Chief Director, Mr. Joseph Kwesi Amoah, and Director for Culture and Creative Arts, Mr. Divine Owusu-Ansah, who both pledged full support for the upcoming collaborations.
The engagement underscored the growing use of culture as a tool for diplomacy. Both nations expressed optimism that their joint initiatives will strengthen mutual understanding, promote shared values, and foster sustainable cultural development.
