Nkrumah Honored on Founder’s Day in Ho

Founder’s Day in Ho was marked with vibrant festivities on Sunday, featuring food fairs, cultural drumming, dancing, and live music at restaurants, pubs, and other venues across the regional capital.

At the 5Star Lounge in Ho Barracks New Town, chiefs and queens gathered at the Sokode Chop and Chill restaurant to enjoy lunch, accompanied by traditional tunes and dancehall rhythms. The event also featured food stands such as the Pork Show and 1957 Shawarma, adding variety and flavor to the day’s activities dedicated to the 116th birthday of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The host, known as Prince, emphasized the importance of recognizing national heroes, remarking:

“A country that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for. Kwame Nkrumah was our hero, and we must continue to celebrate him.”

At the Ho Residency, the occasion coincided with two major events—the 53rd birthday of Volta Regional Minister James Gunu and the launch of Stars of Volta Parade, a new album by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) – Volta.

The celebration featured performances from legendary Togolese singer Agboti Yao, alongside popular Ghanaian artists including Tony D, Israel Maweta, Lady Pat, and C. Wayo. Their captivating acts kept audiences entertained late into the night.

Among the dignitaries present was Ghana’s Ambassador to Togo, Captain George Nfojoh (rtd), whose birthday also fell on the same day as Dr. Nkrumah’s. He paid tribute to Ghana’s first President, noting that Nkrumah’s vision continues to inspire African nations and future generations.
