Ghanaians are being urged to embrace the patriotic spirit and vision of their first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The call comes as the nation reflects on his transformative leadership and enduring impact.

The vibrant event “Welcoming Nkrumah – Kente and Calabash” took place in Accra. Organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and FESTAC Africa, it celebrated Ghana’s culture and honoured Nkrumah’s legacy.
GTA CEO, Maame Efua Houadjeto, stressed the importance of drawing lessons from Nkrumah’s vision. She encouraged citizens to revive their patriotism and commit to national progress.
“Nkrumah’s vision went beyond political independence. He aimed for a self-reliant, united, and prosperous Ghana. By embracing his ideals, we can strengthen unity and drive growth,” she said.
She also highlighted culture as a key driver of economic progress. By promoting traditions and heritage, Ghana can boost tourism, attract more visitors, and fuel development.

The occasion also marked the official launch of the 2025 FESTAC Africa Renaissance Festival at the Accra International Conference Centre. Running from September 21 to 27, the week-long event promotes African culture, unity, and identity.
FESTAC Africa Chairman, Engineer Yinka, traced the festival’s history to the 1960s. At that time, newly independent African states sought cultural solidarity. This year’s edition, he explained, builds on that legacy while showcasing Africa’s creativity.
Festival highlights include:
- Conferences & Summits: Trade, Tourism, Technology, Women ARISE, Youth BOLD Moves
- Health Screenings: Free for all attendees
- Cultural Performances: Nightly shows at Independence Square
- Sports & Youth Activities: SA vs. Zimbabwe Braai Day, Walk4Hope
- Film Screenings: Daily African movies and documentaries
