Hiplife and afrobeat artist Peter Famiyeh Bozah, popularly known as Fameye, has expressed his aspiration to win the coveted Artiste of the Year award at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). Fameye, recognized for his hit single “Nothing I Get,” stated that he would feel disappointed if he does not receive this accolade.
Fameye’s confidence stems from his impressive track record, which includes being named Artiste of the Year at the fourth edition of the Western Music Awards last year. Additionally, he won the Best New Artiste of the Year at the 2020 VGMA, demonstrating his steady rise in the music industry.
In an interview with Accra-based Hitz FM, Fameye emphasized his hard work over the past year, believing he has earned the right to be recognized as Artiste of the Year. He mentioned, “This year, I’m hoping to see myself in that category.
This time around, I want the main artiste of the year. I think I worked hard enough to bag that award.” He also expressed a desire to win both the 3 Music Awards and VGMA, adding that his fans would be disappointed if he doesn’t secure the Artiste of the Year title, reflecting the connection he has with them.
Fameye has recently signed a music distribution deal with Empire, a Nigeria-based company, to market and distribute his music globally. This partnership aims to promote all of Fameye’s works, including his upcoming projects, on various international music platforms, expanding his reach and influence.
It’s also worth noting that last year, the VGMA’s decision to award Kuami Eugene as Artiste of the Year surprised many, as some believed he didn’t deserve the honor. This highlights the competitive nature of the awards and the varying opinions on what constitutes merit in the music industry.
