Epixode: A live performance is the true measure of an artiste’s talent

There’s no denying the commanding stage presence of Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Epixode. Every time he steps on stage—especially during live performances—he leaves audiences with an unforgettable experience.

His craft extends far beyond music; Epixode connects with his audience through direct engagement, expressive body language, and a raw emotional energy that deeply resonates.

Speaking to Graphic Showbiz on Monday, June 9, the Atia hitmaker shared insights into the inspiration behind his dynamic stagecraft. He stressed that an artiste’s longevity and relevance depend heavily on continuous skill-building, particularly in live performances.

“For every artiste, it’s crucial to invest in developing that aspect of the craft. Longevity in this industry is closely tied to the ability to captivate live audiences,” he said.

However, Epixode acknowledged the challenges many artistes face with live band performances. He noted that the evolution of Ghana’s music scene has left many young performers without adequate exposure to live music settings.

“Most artistes struggle with live performances because we didn’t grow up with them as a norm. Fortunately, I come from a background where live music was essential, and that shaped my appreciation and mastery of the art,” he explained.

Still, Epixode recognises the diversity of talent within the music space—some artistes thrive in studio production, others in songwriting, and some on stage. He considers it a blessing to be counted among Ghana’s best live performers.

“Every artiste has their unique strength. Some are brilliant in the studio, others in writing or performance. I’m grateful to be recognised for my stagecraft,” he noted.

Beyond the Stage: Music with Purpose

Shifting from performance, Epixode also reflected on his recent accolade—the Music for Good Award at the Ghana Music Awards. For him, this recognition goes beyond personal validation; it highlights his mission to create impactful music.

“As a growing artiste, winning the Music for Good Award means a lot. While music is often made for fun and celebration, I believe it should also heal, inspire, and speak on important social issues. I’m proud that my work is making a difference,” he said.

On His New Single, Millions

Speaking on his latest release, Millions, Epixode—real name Theophilus Nii Arday Otoo—described the track as a Dancehall anthem about ambition and the universal desire for success.

Millions speaks to the hunger for greatness. It’s more than just wanting money—it’s about success in every area of life. The line ‘we pray for millions’ captures that collective dream,” he explained.
