The Minister of Tourism, Creative Arts, and Culture, Mr. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has announced that Ghana’s new music streaming platform, Ghana Music Xperience (GMX), will significantly enhance the country’s creative arts sector.
Launched on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the De Iconic Events Centre in East Legon, GMX marks a milestone for Ghana’s music industry. The event was attended by key figures from the entertainment sector and government, including Vice President and NPP Flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia, Minister Andrew Egyapa Mercer, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons, and Ghana Tourism Authority CEO Akwesi Agyeman.
In his address, Mr. Mercer emphasized the cultural importance of music in Ghana, stating, “Music is the pulse of Ghana, a medium through which we convey our heritage, resilience, and unity.” He added, “With GMX, we’re not only enhancing our creative arts sector but inviting the world to experience Ghana’s cultural richness. This platform aligns seamlessly with our goals to boost the arts sector and engage global audiences.”
GMX offers innovative features designed to elevate the music experience for users, including early access to new releases, behind-the-scenes videos, artist interviews, and historical Ghanaian content, providing an in-depth view of Ghana’s musical journey. The platform also incorporates an AI-driven recommendation system for personalized music suggestions and social media integration to facilitate playlist sharing and fan engagement.
