The Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has officially inaugurated a newly reconstituted Governing Board for the National Theatre, urging the team to lead efforts in reviving the institution’s operations and cultural programming.

At the inauguration ceremony, the Minister underscored the importance of close collaboration between the Board and the Executive Director of the National Theatre, Henry Herbert Malm, to revitalise one of Ghana’s most significant cultural landmarks.
She described the move as part of the Ministry’s broader commitment to reposition the National Theatre as a dynamic centre for artistic innovation and national creative expression.
“I thank His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for the trust he has placed in this team. I am confident that the experience and dedication of the members will chart a transformative path for the National Theatre,” she said.
Hon. Gomashie encouraged the Board to support the Executive Director’s vision, stressing that effective teamwork would be key to enhancing public engagement and boosting the theatre’s artistic output.
The newly formed Board is chaired by renowned cultural advocate Korkor Amarteifio and features prominent figures from Ghana’s creative and academic sectors. Members include Henry Herbert Malm, Executive Director of the National Theatre; Dr. Sylvanus Korshie Kuwor, Dean of the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana; Prof. Samuel Aniegye Ntewusu, Director of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana; lawyer Esther Yayra Attipoe, Esq.; dancer and choreographer Nii-Tete Yartey; Rev. Hedwig Naa Tolloo Quist; cultural promoter Jordan Kofi Norshie; and Aku Dzifa Florence Glikpoe.
Also present at the event were officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, led by Chief Director Joseph Kwasi Amoah. The occasion marked a significant step in the government’s ongoing efforts to revitalise Ghana’s cultural infrastructure and strengthen national identity through the arts.
