Ghanaian music duo DopeNation is on a mission to take Ghana’s sound to the world. They are encouraging other artistes to follow the same path.

DopeNation twins Michael and Tony Boafo urging artistes to think global

The twins, Michael and Tony Boafo, believe that combining global influences with Ghanaian roots is the key to breaking into international markets. Speaking to Graphic Showbiz on Friday, July 25, they stressed that artistes must look beyond local trends. They advised exploring global genres such as Amapiano to reach a wider audience.

“Thinking globally means embracing fresh styles and stepping out of your comfort zone,” they explained. “It’s not only about Amapiano. Any sound that is making waves worldwide is worth exploring. To go global, you must think global and move beyond your local space.”

Their latest album, Ghanapiano, is more than a genre. It is a movement that fuses the infectious rhythm of Amapiano with Ghana’s cultural richness. As a result, the music connects local pride with continental trends.

“We are already unique because of our culture,” they said. “Ghanapiano acts as a bridge between Ghana and the rest of Africa. While Amapiano is different from our traditional sound, Ghanapiano merges both into one.”

For DopeNation, promoting Ghana’s identity through music is both a creative pursuit and a responsibility. They believe their cultural heritage should always shine in their work.

“It’s clear we are Ghanaian, and our sound reflects that,” they added. “It’s only right to push our culture through Ghanapiano. Beyond spreading good vibes, it builds community and connection with fans. Over time, it can create a catalogue of work that supports concerts, festivals, and jobs.”

When asked how to improve Ghana’s music industry, they emphasised the need to invest in producers. “They are the foundation of our music. Once they are supported, the entire industry will thrive.”

To rising talents, their message is clear: don’t settle for less. By adopting a global mindset, embracing new sounds, and supporting key players, Ghanaian artistes can lift the local scene onto the world stage.
