Fiifi Coleman Productions is bringing Ghanaian theatre back to the spotlight with a stage revival of Ama Ata Aidoo’s iconic play, The Dilemma of a Ghost. The production will run at the National Theatre in Accra from Friday, June 6 to Sunday, June 8, 2025.
This highly anticipated performance boasts a star-studded cast including Ghanaian acting legends David Dontoh and Fred Amugi. They are joined by Adjetey Anang, Gadede Segbefia, and director Fiifi Coleman, all of whom promise an unforgettable performance.

Originally penned in 1965, The Dilemma of a Ghost follows Ato, a young Ghanaian man returning home from his studies abroad, accompanied by his African-American wife, Eulalie. The couple must navigate the tensions between their modern worldview and the traditional expectations of Ato’s family.
“The themes in this play are still deeply relevant,” said director Fiifi Coleman in an interview with Graphic Showbiz. “It’s about family, identity, culture, and belonging—issues that continue to resonate across Ghana and the diaspora.”
Ama Ata Aidoo’s trailblazing work was one of the first internationally recognized plays by an African woman. Decades later, it continues to provoke thought and inspire audiences with its powerful commentary on intercultural relationships and societal norms.
The production is particularly timely as many members of the African diaspora reconnect with their roots. The play touches on topics such as gender roles, family expectations, and cultural clashes—making it essential viewing for both younger and older generations.
With veterans David Dontoh and Fred Amugi leading the ensemble, audiences can expect a moving and emotionally charged interpretation of this Ghanaian classic.
Fiifi Coleman Productions remains dedicated to preserving and promoting African theatre by reviving classic works and introducing fresh perspectives. Staging The Dilemma of a Ghost is a tribute to Ghanaian arts, heritage, and the enduring power of storytelling.
