The announcement came after several meetings between the family, the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. The family explained that Kumasi was chosen to honour Lumba’s deep connection to the Ashanti Region, where his musical journey began.

Daddy Lumba died on July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness. His passing shocked many Ghanaians, as few knew about his health struggles. He was 60 years old.

After his death, the Government of Ghana and the Creative Arts Agency held a candlelight vigil at Independence Square on August 2. Fans, friends, and industry colleagues later visited his East Legon home, where a book of condolence was opened in his honour.

Born on September 29, 1964, in Nsuta, Ashanti Region, Daddy Lumba began his career with Nana Acheampong in Germany under the name Lumba Brothers. He later launched a solo career that redefined Highlife music in Ghana. His timeless hits, including “Aben Wo Ha,” “Yentie Obiaa,” “Playboy,” “Theresa,” and “Sika Asem,” made him a national treasure and one of Ghana’s most influential musicians.

Thousands of fans are expected to fill the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to celebrate the man whose music shaped Ghana’s culture for over three decades.
